The Doddie Cup 2024

On Thursday, 20th June, SPACE played host to the much-anticipated return of the Doddie Cup, a charity golf event in aid of the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. The day unfolded under ideal conditions, with the sun beaming down on the picturesque Close House Golf Club.

The event saw teams split into Architects vs Engineers, with SPACE Architects taking on TGA Consulting Engineers. Proudly donning their Doddie-coloured polo shirts, attendees arrived early at the clubhouse to enjoy a hearty breakfast and to prepare for the day ahead. The event kicked off with a welcome from SPACE CEO Rob Charlton. Rob then handed over to Scott Graham from TGA, who spoke about last year's event and the important work of the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. Following this, SPACE Director Paul Broadfoot provided a breakdown of the rules for the day ahead.

Before heading onto the course, participants purchased "Mulligan balloons" and gathered for a memorable group photograph on the iconic Close House bridge. The competitive spirit was palpable as results were fed back to the clubhouse, with the scores neck and neck for much of the event.

Out on the course, participants encountered several surprises, including a "beat the pro" themed hole, an inflatable dartboard challenge, and the chance to win a BMW with a hole-in-one—though no one managed to achieve this feat. Everyone also enjoyed some ice-cold refreshments while taking in the stunning views of Close House.

The sun continued to shine as the teams went head to head. Participants enjoyed the various challenges and the chance to showcase their golfing skills. The "beat the pro" hole saw many attempting to outdo the professional. At the same time, the inflatable dartboard provided a unique twist as attendees swapped their golf balls for a football in recognition of the Euros. The hole-in-one challenge provided some entertaining moments, with the tantalising prospect of winning a BMW, keeping everyone on their toes, even if no one succeeded in pulling off the perfect shot.

As the day drew to a close, the final results were eagerly anticipated. This year, TGA emerged victorious with a final score of 9-7. However, the true victory lay in the several thousand pounds raised for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, which will help the charity continue its vital work.

It was a fantastic day, filled with sunshine, good spirits, and the shared goal of supporting a worthy cause. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us and contributed to this year's Doddie Cup.

Our gratitude also goes out to this year's sponsors and the team at Close House Golf Club for their support. As we look forward to next year's rematch, we congratulate TGA, our 2024 winners.
