Phil Lloyd, Associate Director, has been appointed by Middlesbrough Borough Council as their AABC accredited Conservation Architect and advisor for the Historic England and Council funded High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) grant scheme.
The HSHAZ scheme is a national programme to offer £95m of government funding to specific projects within Conservation Areas designated as ‘At Risk’ by Historic England.
On the back of this success, the SPACE Architects conservation team have also this week been successfully appointed by the owners of Spensleys Emporium nightclub within the Middlesbrough HSHAZ. The grade II listed former bank, built in the 1870s, is situated prominently on Albert Road, overlooking Exchange Square. SPACE is engaged to prepare a detailed condition report and schedule of works for conservation repairs and internal remodelling. Facilitated by the HSHAZ grant scheme, it is hoped that the project can be on-site in the early summer.
