Nick Craggs, who initially joined as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant in 2006, has been a driving force behind new ideas and projects that benefit not only SPACE but the entire industry as a whole. His journey at SPACE includes winning the Graduate of the Year award and receiving sponsorship for BArch, before returning full-time in 2009. Nick has been involved in a range of important projects, including schools, residential, and retail projects, with the Park View Student Village being a particularly notable achievement. His dedication to enhancing the building design and construction process is evidenced by his leadership in developing and implementing digital protocols and templates throughout SPACE Architects' workflows. Most recently, Nick played a crucial role in Travis Perkins' innovative WholeHouse project – an intelligent digital platform that aims to streamline the house-building process for SME builders. Nick continues to push the boundaries of what is possible through innovation and experience, adding significant value to every project he is a part of.
Andrew Woods who joined SPACE Architects in 2015, has also been promoted to Associate Director. Andrew who began his role with the delivery of the North Tyneside "Quality Homes for Older People" scheme, quickly progressed to become the Technical Lead and Project Runner on noteworthy university buildings, including Durham University's Teaching and Learning Centre and Newcastle University's Henry Daysh Building. Andrew's involvement with higher education projects continues with his ongoing work on large-scale laboratory refurbishments for both Durham and Northumbria Universities.
Within the company, Andrew plays a particularly meaningful role as an active member of the Technical Group, focusing on developing office standards in project auditing, design reviews, and specification writing. His current emphasis on fire safety and protection measures is of particular importance. Reflecting on his promotion, Andrew stated, "I'm really pleased to have been promoted to Associate Director. SPACE has greatly supported my personal development over the last decade, affording me the opportunities to take on more responsibility and grow as a professional, leading design and on-site delivery of some incredibly rewarding constructions. Being able to see these buildings now in use and the positive feedback received from clients is the best part of the job.
I look forward to continuing to build on these relationships over the coming years."
While Rob Gibson is currently on paternity leave, we are pleased to recognise his achievements at SPACE. Rob has been heavily involved in the delivery of Belle Vue School and, more recently, has led the team delivering Woodlands Academy, which is due for completion in the coming weeks. His hard work and dedication have been instrumental in the success of these projects, and we are proud to announce his promotion to Senior Architect.
CEO Rob Charlton expressed his pride in the recent promotions, stating, "We are thrilled to recognise Nick, Andrew, and Rob's outstanding contributions. Their commitment to excellence, leadership, and dedication to progressing the future of the built environment align with our core values here at SPACE Architects and across the wider group. As their contributions continue to shape our projects and beyond, we are excited to see how they will continue to innovate and lead in their new positions."
