Having established good relationships with Newcastle International Airport Limited (NIAL) personnel during the design and construction of the terminal extension (completed 2012) Space Architects have since been appointed to carry out a number of feasibilities for this client. In February 2015 Space were commissioned to prepare a Viewing Facility feasibility study by NIAL.
The purpose of this study was to establish the scope of the scheme and to allow NIAL both to establish the business case for the facility and to explore potential funding sources including sponsorship.
Following submission of an initial feasibility in March 2015, NIAL increased their ambitions for this project and commissioned Space to prepare further options that demonstrated how the facility could be expanded incrementally to accommodate retail and catering facilities. These options for the development of a prefabricated facility above the existing Air Traffic Control Facility were presented in July 2015.
Last week, we challenged work experience students to learn Revit, design their own scheme and present it to two of our directors and a part-one graduate in just one week. The results were absolutely fantastic and it was 15-year-old Abby Wardingham who took the first place prize home! Watch our video, here.
